Verses 11–20 of 35

11

Lamentations 3:32-33 KJV

But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

Context & Meaning

Even when grief comes through God's own providence, it is not without His compassion and never willingly inflicted, God is not callous toward human sorrow but sorrows alongside His people.

12

Romans 8:18 KJV

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Context & Meaning

Paul does not dismiss present grief but puts it on a scale against coming glory, and the weight of future glory makes present suffering, however real and severe, incomparable in contrast.

13

Psalm 56:8 KJV

Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears in thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

Context & Meaning

In ancient times, mourners kept tears in small bottles as a memorial. David uses this image to declare that God collects every tear, no grief goes unnoticed or unmeasured by Him. Every sorrow is on record.

14

Romans 8:26 KJV

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Context & Meaning

Grief often leaves us unable to form words in prayer, and at that precise moment, the Holy Spirit intercedes with groanings beyond language. Even speechless grief is not outside the reach of God's care.

15

Psalm 23:4 KJV

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Context & Meaning

The valley of death's shadow is the biblical image of grief, and the psalm does not reroute around it. It promises a Shepherd who walks through it alongside us, whose presence and tools are the source of comfort in the darkest valley.

16

Psalms 147:3 KJV

He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
17

Isaiah 61:1 KJV

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
18

Isaiah 61:2 KJV

To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
19

Isaiah 61:3 KJV

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
20

John 11:32 KJV

Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
