Fear — Page 2
Verses 11–20 of 25
Isaiah 43:1 KJV
“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”
Context & Meaning
God addresses fear with identity, "thou art mine." Being owned by, known by, and named by the God who redeemed you is the deepest possible answer to the question at the root of every fear: am I safe?
John 14:27 KJV
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Context & Meaning
Jesus directly addresses the fearful heart with His peace, a peace that is qualitatively different from anything the world can offer. The command "let not your heart be afraid" assumes the will has a role in managing fear.
Psalm 91:5 KJV
“Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day.”
Context & Meaning
Psalm 91 promises specific freedom from nighttime terror and daytime danger, two of the most common categories of human fear, for those who dwell in the shadow of the Almighty.
Proverbs 29:25 KJV
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
Context & Meaning
Fear of what others think, say, or do is described as a trap, it controls, limits, and ensnares. Trust in God is the liberating alternative that produces true safety.
Hebrews 13:6 KJV
“So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”
Context & Meaning
The writer quotes Psalm 118:6 and grounds bold fearlessness in one reality: the Lord is my helper. Human opposition, however real or threatening, cannot ultimately prevail against the person God helps.
Psalms 27:1 KJV
“A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalms 27:2 KJV
“When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.”
Psalms 27:3 KJV
“Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.”
Psalms 56:3 KJV
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”
Psalms 56:4 KJV
“In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”
