Jesus raises the standard above the Old Testament's prohibition of murder to the heart level, causeless anger carries moral weight before God, not just acted-out violence.

Proverbs 22:24-25 KJV

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Context & Meaning

Anger is contagious, proximity to chronically angry people shapes your own responses. Solomon's warning to choose friends carefully is also a warning about the power of our relational environments.

Context & Meaning

God Himself is described as "slow to anger", the divine character trait of patience and restraint in anger is the model for how His people are called to handle their own anger.

Context & Meaning

The Preacher's word is blunt: habitual, resident anger is the mark of a fool. The wise person does not let anger take up permanent residence in their heart.

Context & Meaning

The word translated "glory" is a strong word for honor, it is genuinely glorious and honorable to overlook an offense. Choosing not to be angered by every slight is a mark of wisdom and dignity.
